How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose. For osteoarthritis, it's usually 30 mg daily; for rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, 60 mg daily; for gout, 120 mg daily (max 8 days); and for dental surgery pain, 90 mg daily (max 3 days).

Method

Take this medicine by mouth once a day, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribes; the maximum daily dose can be from 30 mg to 120 mg, depending on your condition and your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Swelling of legs and/or feet due to fluid buildup
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Constipation, gas, heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the food pipe, mouth sores
  • Changes in liver blood test results
  • Easy bruising, feeling tired or weak, flu-like symptoms
RARE
  • Serious allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat making it hard to breathe or swallow, requiring immediate medical attention)
  • Stomach or gut inflammation (stomach flu), infections (upper respiratory, urinary tract)
  • Changes in blood cell counts (red, white, platelets)
  • Anxiety, depression, confusion, restlessness, hallucinations, difficulty sleeping, numbness or tingling, taste changes
  • Blurred vision, eye irritation, ringing in the ears, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), rapid heartbeat, heart failure, chest tightness, heart attack, stroke (including mini-stroke), severe high blood pressure, inflammation of blood vessels
  • Cough, nosebleed, abdominal bloating, dry mouth, irritable bowel, inflamed pancreas, skin rash, red or itchy skin, muscle cramps/stiffness
  • High potassium in blood, severe kidney problems, liver problems (hepatitis), liver failure, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice), low sodium in blood, severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to etoricoxib or other pain relievers like aspirin or similar anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a stomach ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or gut.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine is not for children under 16 years old.

  • Do not take this medicine if you have inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have high blood pressure that is not controlled by medication.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a history of heart disease (like heart failure, angina, heart attack, or bypass surgery) or stroke, as it may increase the risk.
  • Stop taking and get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, worsening swelling in your ankles/feet, yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), severe stomach pain, black stools, or an allergic reaction (rash, blisters, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. May increase swelling, worsen renal and cardiac failure and cause cardiovascular events. Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding less than with traditional NSAIDs. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
