How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Common doses are 30mg, 60mg, or 90mg once a day, depending on your condition.

Method

Take tablets by mouth once a day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole.

Important

Do not take more than 120 mg in a single day, and only for short periods as advised by your doctor, e.g., for gout (max 8 days). For most conditions, the maximum daily dose is 90 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stomach pain
  • Dry socket (inflammation and pain after tooth extraction)
  • Swelling of legs and/or feet due to fluid retention
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Heart palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat), irregular heart rhythm
  • High blood pressure
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Constipation, gas, stomach inflammation, heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the esophagus, mouth ulcers
  • Changes in liver blood test results
  • Tendency to bruise
  • Tiredness and weakness, flu-like symptoms
RARE
  • Stomach or gut inflammation (stomach flu), upper respiratory infection, urinary tract infection
  • Changes in blood test results (decreased red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets)
  • Allergic reaction including hives, potentially severe, requiring immediate medical attention
  • Increased or decreased appetite, weight gain
  • Anxiety, depression, reduced mental alertness, hallucinations
  • Taste disturbance, insomnia, numbness or tingling, sleepiness
  • Blurred vision, eye irritation and redness
  • Ringing in the ears, vertigo (sensation of spinning while still)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation), rapid heartbeat, heart failure, chest tightness, pressure or heaviness (angina), heart attack
  • Flushing, stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), severe increase in blood pressure, blood vessel inflammation
  • Cough, shortness of breath, nosebleed
  • Abdominal swelling, changes in bowel habits, dry mouth, stomach ulcers, severe stomach lining inflammation leading to bleeding, irritable bowel, pancreatitis
  • Facial swelling, rash or itchy skin, red skin
  • Muscle cramps or spasms, muscle pain or stiffness
  • High potassium levels in blood, changes in kidney function tests, severe kidney problems
  • Chest pain (not heart-related)
  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat causing breathing/swallowing difficulties; anaphylaxis/anaphylactic reactions including shock (a severe allergic reaction requiring immediate medical attention)
  • Confusion, restlessness
  • Liver problems (hepatitis)
  • Low sodium levels in blood
  • Liver failure, yellow skin and/or eyes (jaundice)
  • Severe skin reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to etoricoxib or any other ingredient in this medicine, or to other pain-relieving medicines like aspirin.
  • Do not take if you have stomach ulcers or bleeding in your stomach or intestines.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not give this medicine to children or young people under 16 years old.

  • Do not take if you have an inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • Do not take if you have high blood pressure that is not controlled by medicine.
  • Do not take if you have heart disease, heart failure, chest pain (angina), have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, or poor circulation in your legs/feet.
  • Do not take if you have had a stroke or mini-stroke.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an infection, as this medicine can hide fever, a sign of infection.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or sleepy.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Consider adverse renal effect in chronic kidney disease. Do not use in severe renal impairment. May increase swelling, worsen renal and cardiac failure and cause cardiovascular events. Risk of gastrointestinal bleeding less than with traditional NSAIDs. Consider potential interactions especially with preparations that increase risk of bleeding. (updated 16.9.2024)
