How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your exact dose, which is usually given for 2 to 5 days. For adults, this is typically 50-120 mg per square meter of body surface area. For children, it's typically 75-150 mg per square meter of body surface area.

Method

A healthcare professional will give you this medicine as a slow drip into a vein (infusion). This usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose. Do not exceed the dose your doctor prescribes.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Blood problems (your doctor will check with blood tests)
  • Feeling sick (nausea) and throwing up (vomiting)
  • Loss of appetite

  • Changes in skin color

  • Infections (including serious ones like lung infections)

RARE
  • Tingling or numbness in your hands and feet
  • Bleeding
  • Seizures
  • Feeling very sleepy or tired
  • Changes in taste
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Severe skin reactions, including painful blisters, fever, or skin peeling (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Severe sunburn-like rash, especially on skin that was previously treated with radiation
  • Fever
  • Temporary loss of sight
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Heartburn (reflux disease)
  • Redness of face and neck (flushing)
  • A serious blood cancer (acute leukemia)
  • Irregular heartbeat or heart attack
  • Infertility
  • Sudden kidney failure

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to etoposide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have recently received a live vaccine, including the yellow fever vaccine.
  • Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse right away if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of your throat or tongue, trouble breathing, fast heartbeat, or skin rash.
  • Do not use during pregnancy unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.

  • Both men and women must use effective birth control during treatment and for at least 6 months after the last dose. Men should not father a child during this time.
  • This medicine can lower your blood cell counts, making you more likely to get infections or bleed easily. Your doctor will take blood tests to check this.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, infections, or have recently had radiation or chemotherapy, as this medicine can affect these conditions and cause serious issues like tumor lysis syndrome.
  • This medicine can make you feel tired, sick, or dizzy. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you and have talked to your doctor.
