How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your dose individually. For adults, typically 50-100 mg/m² of body surface area daily for 5 consecutive days OR 100–120 mg/m² on days 1, 3, and 5. For children with blood cancer or lymphoma, the dose is 75–150 mg/m² daily for 2–5 days.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give this medicine to you as a slow drip (infusion) into a vein, which takes 30-60 minutes.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum dose individually. Treatment courses can be repeated no sooner than 21 days after the first course.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood cell counts (requires blood tests)
  • Temporary hair loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Skin discoloration (pigmentation changes)
  • Constipation
  • Weakness and general feeling of unwellness
  • Liver damage or increased liver enzyme values
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes)
  • Acute leukemia (rarely)
  • Irregular heartbeat or heart attack (rarely)
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Reactions at the infusion site
  • Allergic reactions
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Sore ulcers on lips, mouth, or throat
  • Skin problems like itching and rash
  • Vein inflammation
  • Infections (especially in patients with weakened immune systems)
RARE
  • Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
  • Bleeding
  • Acid reflux
  • Skin redness
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Change in taste
  • Convulsions (seizures)
  • Fever
  • Drowsiness or fatigue
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Temporary blindness
  • Severe skin reactions, such as painful blisters, fever, and skin peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Sunburn-like rash on previously radiated skin (radiation recall dermatitis)
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (problems caused by the breakdown of cancer cells)
  • Swelling of face and tongue
  • Infertility

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Etoposide if you are allergic to etoposide or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.
  • Do not use Etoposide if you have recently received a live vaccine, including the yellow fever vaccine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low albumin levels in your blood, have recently had radiation or chemotherapy, have an infection, or have liver or kidney problems.
  • This medicine can lower your blood cell counts, increasing your risk of infection and bleeding. You will have regular blood tests to monitor this.

  • During pregnancy, Etoposide should only be used if your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
  • Both men and women must use effective birth control during treatment and for at least 6 months after treatment ends.
  • If you feel tired, sick, dizzy, or faint, do not drive or use machines until you have discussed this with your doctor.
  • This medicine contains alcohol, which can cause drowsiness and affect your ability to drive or use machines, especially in children.
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy or liver problems, as this medicine contains alcohol and benzyl alcohol.
  • This medicine contains benzyl alcohol, which can cause allergic reactions. High amounts can build up in the body and cause problems, especially in children under 3 years old and newborns.
