How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your correct dose, using the lowest effective dose for the shortest time needed.

Method

Apply the patch to your lower stomach, below the waistline. Change the patch twice a week on the same two days (e.g., Monday and Thursday) and leave it on constantly until it's time to change.

Important

The maximum dose is 100 micrograms per 24 hours. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

  • Heavy periods, vaginal discharge, irregular vaginal bleeding, strong uterine contractions, vaginal infection, thickening of the uterine lining
  • Pain (e.g., back, arm, leg, wrist, ankle pain)
  • Weakness, fluid retention (swelling in hands or feet)
  • Weight changes
RARE
  • Migraine, dizziness
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Vomiting
  • Skin discoloration
  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
  • Gallstones
  • Hair loss
  • Muscle weakness
  • Benign uterine growths (fibroids)
  • Cysts near fallopian tubes, polyps in the cervix
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Allergic skin reactions (e.g., rash)
  • Impaired carbohydrate tolerance
  • Involuntary movements (e.g., of eyes, head, neck)
  • Contact lens discomfort
  • Severe skin damage
  • Excessive hair growth
  • Allergic skin inflammation
  • Non-cancerous breast lumps

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have or have had breast cancer or other estrogen-sensitive cancer, or if you suspect you might have them.
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use if you have or have had blood clots (e.g., in legs or lungs) or a blood clotting disorder.
  • Stop using immediately and contact your doctor if you experience sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing, yellowing of skin/eyes, or severe swelling/redness in your legs.
  • Stop using immediately and contact your doctor if you notice any changes in your breasts, such as lumps, dimpling, or nipple changes.

  • Do not use if you are allergic to estradiol or any other ingredients in the patch.
  • Estradot is not a contraceptive. If you are under 50 or if less than 12 months have passed since your last period, you may still need contraception.
  • If you need surgery, you may need to stop using Estradot 4-6 weeks beforehand to reduce the risk of blood clots. Always tell your doctor you are using Estradot.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

The classification depends on the dosage form. Systemic use (for example estrogen patch, tablet, gel): Avoid use in older adults. In systemic use, consider potential adverse effects, such as risk of cardiovascular diseases and venous thromboembolism. Consider potential interactions.
