How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is one tablet per day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew or crush it. You can take the tablet with food or on an empty stomach.

Important

Do not take more than one 20 mg tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach or bowel issues: diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, and flatulence
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Benign stomach polyps
RARE
  • Swelling of the feet and ankles
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Dizziness, tingling sensations (pins and needles), and drowsiness
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Dry mouth
  • Abnormal liver values in blood tests
  • Skin rash, hives, and itchy skin
  • Hip, wrist, or spine fractures (with long-term, high-dose use)
  • Changes in blood values (reduced white blood cells or platelets), which can cause weakness, bruising, or make you more prone to infections
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, which can cause weakness, vomiting, and cramps
  • Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
  • Changes in taste
  • Vision problems, such as blurred vision
  • Sudden wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Inflammation of the mouth
  • Fungal infection (thrush) in the mouth, throat, or esophagus
  • Liver problems, including jaundice (yellow skin, dark urine, and tiredness)
  • Hair loss
  • Rash when exposed to sunlight
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • General feeling of being unwell or lack of energy
  • Increased sweating
  • Severe changes in blood tests, including a lack of white blood cells (agranulocytosis)
  • Aggressiveness
  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • Severe liver problems leading to liver failure and brain inflammation
  • Sudden severe skin rash with blistering or peeling skin, possibly with high fever and joint pain (e.g., erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or DRESS)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Severe kidney problems
  • Enlarged breasts in men
  • Low levels of magnesium in the blood, which can cause tiredness, involuntary muscle movements, confusion, seizures, dizziness, and a fast heartbeat (can also lead to low potassium and calcium levels)
  • Inflammation of the gut (causing diarrhea)
  • Rash, possibly with joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Esopraz if you are allergic to esomeprazole, other similar medicines (proton pump inhibitors), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Esopraz if you are taking nelfinavir, a medicine used to treat HIV infection.
  • Do not use Esopraz if you have previously developed a severe rash or blistering on your skin after taking Esopraz or similar medicines.
  • See a doctor right away if you lose a lot of weight for no clear reason, have trouble swallowing, stomach pain, indigestion, vomit food or blood, or have black stools.
  • Tell your doctor if you get a rash, especially in areas exposed to the sun, as treatment with Esopraz may need to be stopped.

  • Stop taking Esopraz and get medical help immediately if you notice severe skin reactions like widespread rashes, high fever, or swollen lymph nodes.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old unless a doctor prescribes it.
  • If you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor for advice before using this medicine. Do not use Esopraz while breastfeeding.
  • If your doctor has told you that you cannot tolerate certain sugars, talk to them before taking Esopraz, as it contains sucrose and lactose.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you have a fever or feel very unwell with symptoms of a local infection (like sore throat or mouth) to check for a lack of white blood cells.
