How to Use

Dosage

For reflux disease, children 1-11 years typically take 1 to 2 sachets (10-20 mg) once daily, based on body weight. For H. pylori ulcers in children aged 4 and above, your doctor will determine the dose based on weight.

Method

Empty the contents of one or more sachets into a glass with a small amount of non-fizzy water (15 ml per sachet). Stir, let it thicken for a few minutes, stir again, and drink within 30 minutes. Do not chew or crush the granules. Can be taken with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for patients with severe liver problems is 2 sachets (20 mg). For children aged 1-11 with severe liver problems, the maximum daily dose is 10 mg. For others, follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach or bowel problems such as diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, gas
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting)
  • Benign polyps in the stomach
RARE
  • Swelling of the feet and ankles
  • Sleep problems (insomnia)
  • Dizziness, tingling feelings, drowsiness
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in liver function blood tests
  • Skin rash, bumpy rash (hives) and itchy skin
  • Fractures of the hip, wrist or spine (with long-term high dose use)
  • Changes in blood count, such as reduced white blood cells or platelets, which can cause weakness, bruising, or increased infections
  • Low sodium levels in the blood (hyponatremia), which can cause weakness, vomiting, and cramps
  • Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
  • Changes in taste
  • Eyesight problems, such as blurred vision
  • Sudden wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
  • Inflammation of the mouth
  • Thrush (a fungal infection in the mouth, throat, and sometimes esophagus)
  • Liver problems, including jaundice (yellow skin, dark urine, and fatigue)
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • General feeling of being unwell or lack of energy
  • Increased sweating
  • Severe changes in blood count, including agranulocytosis (lack of white blood cells)
  • Aggression
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't there)
  • Severe liver problems leading to liver failure and brain inflammation
  • Sudden severe skin rash, blistering or peeling skin, possibly with high fever and joint pain (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Severe kidney problems
  • Breast enlargement in men
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood, which can cause tiredness, involuntary muscle twitches, confusion, seizures, dizziness, and a fast heart rate
  • Inflammation of the bowel (causing diarrhea)
  • Rash with possible joint pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to esomeprazole or similar medicines, or if you are taking nelfinavir (for HIV).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe liver or kidney problems, or if you've had a skin reaction to similar medicines before.
  • See your doctor immediately if you have unexplained weight loss, stomach pain, repeated vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or blood in vomit or stool, as this medicine might hide other serious conditions.
  • Long-term use (over one year) may slightly increase the risk of bone fractures. Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis or use corticosteroids.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you get a severe rash with blisters or peeling skin, especially after sun exposure.

  • If you use this medicine for more than three months, your magnesium levels might drop. Contact your doctor if you feel tired, have muscle twitches, confusion, seizures, dizziness, or a fast heartbeat.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
