How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is one Esomeprazol Orion 20 mg tablet once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food. Do not chew or crush the tablet.

Important

Do not take more than one 20 mg tablet per day. The treatment duration is up to 14 days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, or gas
  • Feeling sick or vomiting
  • Small benign growths in the stomach (polyps)
RARE
  • Swelling of the feet and ankles
  • Sleep problems (trouble sleeping or feeling too sleepy)
  • Dizziness, tingling, or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Dry mouth
  • Skin rash, itching, or hives
  • Bone fractures (hip, wrist, or spine) if used for a long time
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., liver function, blood cell counts, or low mineral levels like sodium/magnesium)
  • Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
  • Changes in taste
  • Vision problems (e.g., blurred vision)
  • Wheezing or shortness of breath
  • Hair loss
  • Skin rash when exposed to sun
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Feeling generally unwell or lacking energy, increased sweating
  • Enlarged breasts in men
  • Inflammation in the gut (can cause diarrhea)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you experience sudden wheezing, swelling of the lips, tongue, or throat, rash, or difficulty swallowing, as these may be signs of a severe allergic reaction.
  • Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop a severe rash, blistering, or peeling skin, especially around the mouth, eyes, nose, or genitals, as these can be serious skin reactions.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you lose a lot of weight without a reason, have difficulty or pain when swallowing, stomach pain, vomit food or blood, or have black stools, as the medicine might hide signs of other serious conditions.
  • Contact your doctor if your skin turns yellow, your urine becomes dark, or you feel very tired, as these can be signs of liver problems.
  • If you get an infection with fever and a very poor general condition, or local infection symptoms like neck pain, contact your doctor immediately, as this medicine can rarely affect white blood cells.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
