How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the exact dose (20 mg or 40 mg) and how often to take it, depending on your condition.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not chew or crush them. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 80 mg, taken twice a day, as prescribed by your doctor for specific conditions.

  • Mouth inflammation
  • Thrush (fungal infection)
  • Liver problems, such as jaundice (yellow skin/eyes), severe liver failure, or brain inflammation
  • Hair loss
  • Sun rash
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • General unwell feeling and weakness
  • Increased sweating
  • Aggressiveness
  • Hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't there)
  • Muscle weakness

  • Low magnesium levels in your blood (with long-term use)
  • Inflammation of the intestine (causing diarrhea)
  • Rash, possibly with joint pain
  • Sudden severe skin rash with blistering or peeling (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, DRESS syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Esomeprazol Krka if you are allergic to esomeprazole or similar medicines called proton pump inhibitors.
  • Stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away if you get severe skin reactions like sudden rash, blistering, or peeling skin.
  • See your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained weight loss, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, vomiting blood, or black stools.
  • Taking this medicine for more than a year may slightly increase your risk of hip, wrist, and spine fractures. Tell your doctor if you have osteoporosis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver or kidney disease or a lack of vitamin B12.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
