How to Use

Dosage

Take one capsule each day.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew or crush it, as this can stop it from working properly.

Important

Do not take more than one 20 mg capsule in a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Stomach problems like diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, or gas
  • Feeling sick or throwing up (nausea or vomiting)
  • Small, harmless growths in the stomach (benign stomach polyps)
RARE
  • Swelling in your feet and ankles
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Feeling dizzy, tingling, or sleepy
  • Feeling like the world is spinning (vertigo)
  • Dry mouth
  • Changes in blood tests that show how your liver is working
  • Skin rash, itchy skin, or raised red bumps (hives)
  • Changes in blood cell counts, which can cause weakness, bruising, or infections
  • Low levels of sodium in the blood, leading to weakness, vomiting, or muscle cramps
  • Feeling agitated, confused, or depressed
  • Changes in taste
  • Vision problems, such as blurred vision
  • Hair loss
  • More sweating than usual
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood, which can cause tiredness, muscle twitches, confusion, seizures, dizziness, and a fast heartbeat.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to esomeprazole or any similar acid-reducing medicines.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking nelfinavir, a medicine used for HIV.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash, blisters, or skin peeling, especially after being in the sun, or if you feel very unwell.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you lose a lot of weight for no reason, have trouble swallowing, get stomach pain, vomit food or blood, or have black poop.
  • See your doctor if your symptoms get worse or don't get better after taking this medicine for 14 days in a row.

  • If you use this medicine for more than a year, it might slightly raise your risk of bone breaks in your hip, wrist, or back.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
