How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose and how often you get it; only your doctor can change your dose.

Method

A specialist doctor or nurse will give you Esketamine Orifarm as a slow injection into a vein or muscle, and it can also be given as an infusion or repeated if needed.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose; long-term use (more than 3 days) or misuse can cause bladder infections and liver damage.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Faster heart rate
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Throat spasms
  • Weakened breathing
  • Increased mucus in the lungs
  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Increased salivation
  • Waking reactions after anesthesia, such as vivid dreams, nightmares, dizziness, and restlessness
RARE
  • Double vision
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Involuntary movements resembling convulsions
  • Measles-like rash, skin rash
  • Pain and/or redness at the injection site
  • Irregular or slow heart rate
  • Low blood pressure
  • Sudden rash, breathing problems, and fainting (within minutes to hours) due to hypersensitivity (anaphylactic reaction/shock). This can be fatal.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to esketamine or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure or increased pressure in your head.
  • Do not use if you have eclampsia or pre-eclampsia (a pregnancy complication with high blood pressure).
  • Do not use with xanthine derivatives or ergometrine (a medicine used to start labor).
  • This medicine should not be given as the only anesthetic if you have calcifications in your heart arteries.

  • Tell your doctor if you have increased pressure in your head due to a stroke or illness.

  • Tell your doctor if you need an eye exam or eye surgery.
  • Tell your doctor if you are under the influence of alcohol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had severe mental health problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an overactive thyroid that is not well controlled.
  • Tell your doctor if you have situations during childbirth where the uterus muscle needs to be relaxed (e.g., threatened uterine rupture).
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of drug abuse or addiction.
  • Tell your doctor if you have impaired liver function.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have blood or urine tests, as Esketamine Orifarm can affect the results.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience shortness of breath after the injection.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for at least 24 hours after treatment, and do not drink alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.
