How to Use

Dosage

For adults and adolescents 13 years and older, the typical dose is 1 gram once a day. For children aged 3 months to 12 years, the dose is 15 mg per kg of body weight, given twice a day.

Method

Ertapenem Qilu is given as an infusion into a vein (intravenously) by a doctor or other healthcare professional over 30 minutes.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and adolescents is 1 gram. For children, the total daily dose should not exceed 1 gram.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • headache
  • diarrhea
  • nausea, vomiting
  • rash, itching
  • reactions at the infusion or injection site (such as pain, inflammation, swelling, hardening, or fluid leakage)
  • increased platelet count
  • changes in liver function tests
  • diaper rash
  • changes in white blood cell count
RARE
  • dizziness, sleepiness, insomnia, confusion, seizures
  • low blood pressure, slow heart rate
  • shortness of breath, sore throat
  • constipation, oral thrush, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, heartburn, dry mouth, indigestion, loss of appetite
  • vaginal discharge and irritation
  • abdominal pain, fatigue, fungal infection, fever, swelling, chest pain, taste disturbance
  • changes in some blood and urine lab tests
  • decreased white blood cells and platelets
  • low blood sugar
  • agitation, anxiety, depression, tremor
  • heart rhythm disorders, high blood pressure, bleeding, fast heart rate
  • nasal congestion, cough, nosebleed, pneumonia, abnormal breathing sounds, wheezing
  • gallbladder inflammation, difficulty swallowing, fecal incontinence, jaundice, liver dysfunction
  • skin inflammation, skin fungal infection, peeling skin, surgical wound infection
  • muscle cramps, shoulder pain
  • urinary tract infection, kidney failure
  • miscarriage, genital bleeding
  • allergy, malaise, pelvic peritonitis, changes in eye whites, fainting
  • hardened skin at injection site
  • swelling of skin blood vessels
  • hallucinations
  • decreased consciousness
  • mood changes (including aggression, confusion, disorientation, and changes in mental state)
  • involuntary movements
  • muscle weakness
  • unsteady gait
  • tooth discoloration
  • flushing/hot flashes, high blood pressure, purplish-red flat pinhead-sized spots under the skin
  • discolored stool, black and tarry stool
  • burning, itching, redness, or warmth at the infusion or injection site

Important Warnings

  • If you have an allergic reaction (like swelling of face, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, or rash) during treatment, contact a doctor immediately as you may need urgent medical care.
  • Antibiotics can sometimes cause other bacteria or fungi to grow too much. Your doctor will monitor this and treat it if needed.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diarrhea before, during, or after treatment, as it could be a bowel inflammation (colitis). Do not take anti-diarrhea medicine without asking your doctor first.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking medicines containing valproic acid or sodium valproate, as Ertapenem Qilu can affect how these medicines work.
  • Tell your doctor about any kidney problems you have or have had, especially if you are on dialysis.

  • Tell your doctor if you have any antibiotic allergies, especially to penicillin, cephalosporins, or carbapenems.
  • Inform your doctor about any central nervous system disorders, such as tremors or seizures.
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine. It is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor decides the benefits outweigh the risks.
  • Do not drive or operate machines until you know how this medicine affects you, as it may cause dizziness or sleepiness.
  • If you notice raised or fluid-filled blisters over a large area of your skin, tell your doctor or nurse immediately.
