How to Use

Dosage

Adults and adolescents (13 years and older): 1 gram once daily. Children (3 months to 12 years): 15 mg per kg of body weight twice daily.

Method

This medicine is prepared and given intravenously (into a vein) by a doctor or other healthcare professional.

Important

The daily dose for children should not exceed 1 gram.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting

  • Pain, inflammation, swelling, or hardening at the injection site
  • Increased platelet count
  • Changes in liver function tests
  • Diaper rash (in children)

RARE
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, confusion, seizures
  • Low blood pressure, slow heart rate
  • Shortness of breath, sore throat
  • Constipation, oral thrush, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, acid reflux, dry mouth, indigestion, loss of appetite
  • Skin redness
  • Vaginal discharge and irritation

  • Discolored stool, black tarry stool (in children)

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to ertapenem or any other antibiotics like penicillin, cephalosporins, or carbapenems, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • If you experience a severe allergic reaction (like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or rash) during treatment, contact your doctor immediately as you may need urgent medical care.
  • Antibiotics, including Ertapenem AptaPharma, can cause other bacteria and fungi to grow more than usual. Your doctor will monitor this and treat it if necessary.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diarrhea before, during, or after treatment, as it could be a sign of a bowel inflammation called colitis. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicines without asking your doctor first.
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking medicines containing valproic acid or sodium valproate (used for epilepsy, bipolar disorder, migraines, or schizophrenia), as Ertapenem AptaPharma can affect how these medicines work.

  • Tell your doctor about any kidney problems you have, especially if you are on dialysis.
  • Inform your doctor about any central nervous system disorders you have had, such as localized tremors or seizures.
  • Do not drive or use machines until you know how this medicine affects you, as some side effects like dizziness and drowsiness may impair your ability to do so.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine, as it has not been studied in pregnant women and has been found in breast milk.
