How to Use
Dosage
Your doctor will usually start with a low dose, gradually increasing it as needed; treatment can also begin with 10 mg once daily before breakfast.
Method
Take the capsule in the morning before breakfast with water, either whole or opened and mixed with a tablespoon of applesauce, and drink liquid afterwards; do not save an opened capsule for later.
Important
The maximum daily dose is 60 mg.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Headache
- •Nervousness
- •Difficulty sleeping
- •Joint pain
- •Dry mouth
- •Fever
- •Loss of appetite or reduced appetite
- •Dizziness
- •Aggression, agitation, anxiety, depression, irritability, and abnormal behavior
RARE
- •Heart palpitations or changes in mood/personality
- •Thoughts of suicide
- •Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that aren't real (psychosis)
- •Severe allergic reactions like rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other body parts, shortness of breath, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
- •Unusual excitement, hyperactivity, and uninhibited behavior (mania)
- •Heart attack
- •Seizures (convulsions/epileptic fits)
- •Prolonged and sometimes painful erections, increased number of erections, or inability to get or maintain an erection
Important Warnings
- If you or your child are allergic to methylphenidate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
- If you or your child have a thyroid problem.
- If you or your child have or have had heart problems, like a heart attack or irregular heartbeat.
- If you or your child have severe mental health problems, such as schizophrenia, thoughts of suicide, severe depression, or mania.
- If you or your child are taking or have taken certain depression medicines called MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days.
