How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 180 micrograms per kilogram of body weight.

Method

The medicine is given directly into a vein as a fast injection, followed by a continuous drip.

Important

The medicine is given as a continuous drip infusion at a maximum rate of 2 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per minute, usually for up to 72 hours, and sometimes up to 96 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Minor or major bleeding (e.g., blood in urine, stool, or vomit, or bleeding during surgery)
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Inflammation of a vein
RARE
  • Reduced platelet count (blood cells needed for clotting)
  • Reduced blood flow to the brain
  • Severe bleeding (e.g., internal bleeding in the abdomen, brain, or lungs)
  • Fatal bleeding
  • Severe reduction in platelet count (blood cells needed for clotting)
  • Rash (like hives)
  • Sudden, severe allergic reaction

Important Warnings

  • You should not receive this medicine if you are allergic to eptifibatide or any other ingredient.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have had bleeding from your stomach, intestines, bladder, or other organs within the last 30 days (excluding normal menstrual bleeding).
  • Do not use if you have had a stroke in the last 30 days or any bleeding in the brain. Tell your doctor if you have had a stroke before.
  • Do not use if you have a brain tumor or a condition affecting blood vessels in your brain.
  • Do not use if you have had major surgery or a severe injury in the last 6 weeks.
