This medicine is used to stop long-lasting epileptic seizures in infants, children, and young people from 3 months to under 18 years old.

How to Use

Dosage

The dosage depends on age: 2.5 mg (0.25 ml) for infants 3 months to under 1 year, 5 mg (0.5 ml) for children 1 to under 5 years, 7.5 mg (0.75 ml) for children 5 to under 10 years, and 10 mg (1 ml) for children 10 to under 18 years.

Method

Administer slowly into the space between the cheek and lower gum (buccal cavity), usually half on each side, or the full dose on one side if difficult.

Important

Do not give more than one dose without a doctor's instruction.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness or loss of consciousness
  • Muscle spasms and tremors
  • Reduced attention
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fatigue
RARE
  • Agitation
  • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there)
  • Temporary memory loss
  • Rash, hives, itching
  • Aggression, difficulty coordinating muscle movements, violence
  • Seizures (convulsions), restlessness
  • Low blood pressure, slow heart rate, redness of face and neck (flushing)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Hiccups
  • Rage, confusion, anger, excessive happiness or excitement (euphoria)
  • Thrombosis (blood clot)
  • Laryngospasm (vocal cord spasm causing breathing difficulties and noisy breathing)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if allergic to midazolam, other benzodiazepines (like diazepam), or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have severe breathing problems or sleep apnea syndrome, as this medicine can make them worse. Infants 3-6 months old must be treated in a hospital.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice during treatment, as they can increase the medicine's calming effect.
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (a disease causing muscle weakness).
