How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose and how often you take this medicine based on your condition.

Method

The medicine is given as an infusion into a vein or directly into your bladder using a catheter. Infusion into a vein usually takes 3-20 minutes. If given into the bladder, you should not drink for 12 hours before, and the medicine stays in your bladder for one hour while you change positions, then you empty your bladder.

Important

The maximum daily dose is determined individually by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Lower numbers of white blood cells (which fight infection), red blood cells (which carry oxygen), and platelets (which help stop bleeding). This can lead to infections, tiredness, and easy bleeding.
  • Hair loss (hair usually grows back 2-3 months after treatment ends).
  • Your urine may turn reddish for 1-2 days after the medicine is given. This is normal and nothing to worry about.
  • Infections.
  • Loss of appetite and dehydration (your body losing too much fluid).
  • Hot flashes.
  • Soreness or inflammation in the mouth and throat, mouth sores, feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Redness at the place where the medicine was given.
  • Bladder inflammation, burning feeling when you urinate, or needing to urinate more often (if the medicine was given into your bladder). Sometimes, there may be blood in your urine.
RARE
  • Blood clots in veins (phlebitis, thrombophlebitis) or lungs (pulmonary embolism), and blockages in blood vessels.
  • Dizziness.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), which can cause serious, life-threatening symptoms.
  • Heart problems like heart failure (tiredness, swelling, shortness of breath), changes in heart readings (ECG), irregular heartbeats, or heart muscle disease. Sometimes, heart changes may occur without noticeable symptoms.
  • Certain types of blood cancer (acute leukemia).
  • High levels of uric acid in the blood.
  • Skin changes like rash, itching, redness, darkening of skin and nails, or increased sensitivity to sunlight or radiation therapy.
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin).
  • Missed periods in women or a lack of sperm in semen for men.
  • Feeling generally unwell, weakness, fever, or chills.
  • Changes in liver function test results.
  • Severe infections like sepsis (a very serious body-wide infection) or pneumonia (lung infection).
  • Inflammation of the outer membrane of the eye (conjunctivitis) or inflammation of the clear front part of the eye (keratitis).
  • Local tissue damage or severe inflammation at the injection site if the medicine leaks outside the vein.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to epirubicin, similar cancer medicines (anthracyclines), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not receive this medicine into a vein if you have severe heart problems, unstable chest pain (angina), heart muscle disease, or have had a heart attack.
  • Do not receive this medicine into a vein if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not receive this medicine into a vein if your bone marrow has been weak for a long time.

  • Do not receive this medicine into a vein if you have a sudden body-wide infection.
  • Do not receive this medicine into a vein if you have already had the highest allowed amount of similar cancer medicines.
  • Do not receive this medicine into your bladder if you have a urinary tract infection, bladder infection, blood in your urine, a spreading bladder tumor, or problems with a catheter.
  • You will have regular blood tests to check your blood cells, liver, and kidney function, as this medicine can affect them. Your heart will also be checked often.
  • Tell your doctor if you are planning to get vaccinated.
