How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for children (weighing 15-30 kg) in an allergic emergency is 150 micrograms of adrenaline injected into a muscle.

Method

Inject firmly into the outer thigh at a 90-degree angle, holding for 3 seconds. It can be injected through clothes. Never inject into the buttocks.

Important

If symptoms do not improve or worsen within 5-15 minutes after the first injection, a second injection may be given. Always seek medical help immediately after using EpiPen Jr.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (sometimes severe)
  • Severe chest pain
  • High blood pressure
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Pale skin
  • Sweating
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Trembling, nervousness or anxiety
  • Bruising, bleeding, redness or bone injury at the injection site
RARE
  • Severe skin infections at the injection site (swelling, redness, warmth, pain)
  • Heart muscle damage (stress cardiomyopathy)

Important Warnings

  • Do not inject into hands or feet, as this can reduce blood flow. If you do, seek immediate medical help.
  • If you have a thick layer of fat under your skin, one dose might not be enough, and you may need a second injection.
  • If you have asthma, you might have a higher risk of a severe allergic reaction.
  • If you have had anaphylactic shock, contact your doctor for allergy tests to avoid triggers.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, severe kidney problems, prostate tumor, high or low blood calcium/potassium, or Parkinson's disease.

  • EpiPen Jr. contains sodium metabisulphite, which can rarely cause severe allergic reactions or breathing problems.
  • Always seek immediate medical help after using EpiPen Jr. Call 112 for an ambulance and say it's anaphylaxis, even if symptoms seem to get better, as the reaction can return.
