How to Use

Dosage

A slow intravenous injection of 5 milligrams, which can be repeated every 3–4 minutes as needed.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into a vein. Only a doctor or nurse can administer this medicine.

Important

The total daily dose should not exceed 150 milligrams.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma attacks (increased eye pressure) in people who are already prone to it.
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia).
  • Feeling nervous.
RARE
  • Shaking (tremor).
  • Sweating.
  • Fast heartbeat (tachycardia).
  • Feeling your heart pound or beat irregularly (palpitations).
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Inability to urinate (acute urinary retention).
  • Migraine.
  • Anxiety.
  • Irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmias).
  • High blood pressure (hypertension).
  • Chest pain in the front (precordial pain).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ephedrine or any other ingredient, if you are overly excited, have a tumor that raises blood pressure (phaeochromocytoma), or are currently taking certain other stimulant or antidepressant medicines, or have taken them within the last two weeks.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, irregular or fast heartbeat, enlarged prostate, overactive thyroid, coronary artery disease, aneurysm, blood vessel blockages, glaucoma, anxiety, or any other heart condition or mental illness.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 12 years of age because there is not enough information about its effectiveness and safety for them.
