How to Use
Dosage
The usual dose is a slow intravenous injection of 5 milligrams at a time (up to 10 mg), repeated every 3–4 minutes if needed.
Method
The medicine is given as an injection directly into a vein by a doctor or nurse under medical supervision.
Important
The maximum daily dose is 150 milligrams.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Acute glaucoma attacks (increased eye pressure) in people at risk.
- •Sleeplessness.
- •Nervousness.
RARE
- •Tremors.
- •Sweating.
- •Fast heart rate (tachycardia) or palpitations.
- •Nausea, vomiting.
- •Difficulty urinating (acute urinary retention).
- •Migraine.
- •Anxiety.
- •Irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmias).
- •High blood pressure (hypertension).
- •Chest pain in the front of the chest (precordial pain).
- •Changes in blood clotting parameters.
- •Allergy (hypersensitivity reactions).
- •Irritability.
- •Confusion, depression.
- •Muscle weakness.
- •Rash.
Important Warnings
- Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ephedrine or any other ingredient in it.
- Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, an irregular or fast heartbeat, or any other heart condition.
- Inform your doctor if you have diabetes, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma (high eye pressure), an enlarged prostate, or certain mental health conditions like chronic anxiety.
- Do not take this medicine if you have a tumor that causes high blood pressure (pheochromocytoma).
- Do not take this medicine if you are currently using or have used MAO inhibitors (a type of antidepressant) within the last two weeks.
