Entolex is a herbal medicine with peppermint oil used to relieve mild cramps, gas, and stomach pain in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

How to Use

Dosage

Adults and elderly: 1-2 capsules. Young people (12-17 years): 1 capsule.

Method

Swallow capsules whole with enough cold liquid (preferably a glass of cold water) at least 30 minutes before a meal. Do not break or chew.

Important

Do not take more than three times a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • heartburn
  • burning sensation around the anus
  • blurred vision
  • dry mouth
  • nausea
  • vomiting
RARE
  • unusual smell of stool and urine (menthol-like)
  • painful urination
  • inflammation of the glans penis
  • severe allergic reactions, including anaphylactic shock (a sudden severe allergic reaction with symptoms like low blood pressure and breathing difficulties), requiring immediate medical care
  • headache
  • very slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • tremors
  • poor muscle coordination
  • red skin rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to peppermint oil, menthol, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have liver disease, bile duct inflammation, low stomach acid, gallstones, or any other gallbladder disease.
  • If you have heartburn or a hiatal hernia, your symptoms might get worse; if this happens, stop using Entolex.
  • Do not use other products with peppermint oil while taking Entolex.
  • Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

  • Avoid taking with medicines that reduce stomach acid (e.g., antacids) as they can cause the capsule to dissolve too early.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as there is not enough safety information.
  • Contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen significantly, if you are over 40 and your symptoms have changed or have been absent for a long time, if you recently had blood in your stool, or if you have unexplained loss of appetite or weight.
