Entecavir Stada is an antiviral medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults, and in children and adolescents aged 2 to under 18 years, by reducing the amount of virus and improving liver condition.

How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults is 0.5 mg or 1 mg once daily by mouth. For children and adolescents, the dose is determined by their weight.

Method

You can usually take this medicine with or without food. If you have advanced liver disease or have switched from lamivudine, take it on an empty stomach (at least 2 hours after a meal and 2 hours before your next meal).

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 1 mg. For children and adolescents, your doctor will determine the appropriate dose.

  • Somnolence (sleepiness)

  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Digestion problems (dyspepsia)
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood
  • Low levels of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell important for fighting infections) - common in children
RARE
  • Rash
  • Hair loss
  • Severe allergic reaction

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to entecavir or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor about any kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor, as your hepatitis B infection may worsen.
  • If you have HIV, tell your doctor. You should not use this medicine for hepatitis B unless you are also taking HIV medicines.
  • This medicine does not prevent the spread of hepatitis B virus to others. Always take precautions to avoid transmission.

  • This medicine can rarely cause a serious condition called lactic acidosis. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain. Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or tiredness, which may affect your ability to drive or use machines.
  • The medicine contains lactose, so talk to your doctor if you have sugar intolerance.
