How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 1.5 mg per kg of body weight once a day, or 1 mg per kg of body weight twice a day, as decided by your doctor.

Method

This medicine is usually given as an injection under the skin by a doctor or nurse. It can also be given into a vein or into the tubing of a dialysis machine, but never into a muscle.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose based on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding
  • Increased liver enzymes
  • Pink spots on the skin, often at injection sites
  • Rashes (hives)
  • Itchy red skin
  • Bruising or pain at the injection site
  • Decrease in red blood cells
  • High platelet count
  • Headache
RARE
  • Sudden severe headache (may be a sign of brain bleeding)
  • Tenderness and swelling in the abdomen (may be stomach bleeding)
  • Large, red, irregularly shaped skin lesions, possibly with blisters
  • Skin irritation (local)
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes, or dark urine (may be liver problems)
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, difficulty swallowing/breathing, swelling of lips, face, throat, or tongue)
  • High potassium levels in the blood (more likely with kidney problems or diabetes)
  • Increased eosinophils in the blood (a type of white blood cell)
  • Hair loss
  • Osteoporosis (weak bones) after long-term use
  • Tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness (especially in the lower body) after spinal tap or anesthesia
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control
  • Hard lump or swelling at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to enoxaparin sodium, heparin, or other similar medicines.
  • Do not use if you have had a severe drop in blood platelets due to heparin within the last 100 days.
  • Do not use if you have antibodies against enoxaparin in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have severe bleeding or a high risk of bleeding, such as from a stomach ulcer, recent brain/eye surgery, or a stroke caused by bleeding.
  • Do not use to treat blood clots if you are scheduled for a spinal tap or surgery with spinal/epidural anesthesia within the next 24 hours.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
