How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and weight, often 1.5 mg per kg once a day or 1 mg per kg twice a day.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection, usually under the skin. It can also be given into a vein or a dialysis line for certain conditions. Do not inject into a muscle.

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you, depending on your condition and age.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding
  • Increased liver enzymes (shown in blood tests)
  • Easier bruising (due to low platelet count)
  • Pink spots on the skin, often at the injection site
  • Rashes (hives)
  • Itchy red skin
  • Bruising or pain at the injection site
  • Decrease in red blood cells
  • Increase in platelets
  • Headache
RARE
  • Sudden severe headache (may be a sign of brain bleeding)
  • Abdominal tenderness and swelling (may be internal bleeding)
  • Large red, irregularly shaped skin lesions, possibly with blisters
  • Local skin irritation
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes, or dark urine (may be liver problems)
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., rash, difficulty swallowing/breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat)
  • Increased potassium in blood (more likely with kidney problems or diabetes)
  • Increase in eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in blood
  • Hair loss
  • Osteoporosis (weak bones) after long-term use
  • Tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness (especially in lower body) after spinal puncture or anesthesia
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control
  • Hard lump or swelling at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to enoxaparin sodium or similar medicines (heparins).
  • Do not use if you had a severe reaction to heparin that significantly lowered your platelet count in the last 100 days.
  • Do not use if you have enoxaparin antibodies in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have severe bleeding or a high risk of bleeding, such as from a stomach ulcer, recent brain or eye surgery, or a stroke caused by brain bleeding.
  • Do not use for blood clot treatment if you are scheduled for a spinal or lumbar puncture or surgery with spinal/epidural anesthesia within 24 hours.

  • Do not switch this medicine with other low molecular weight heparins without your doctor's guidance, as they are not exactly the same.
  • This medicine can cause bleeding, which may be serious. Tell your doctor if you notice any unusual bleeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
