How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right dose for you based on your condition. For treating existing blood clots, it's usually 1.5 mg per kg body weight once a day, or 1 mg per kg twice a day. For preventing clots, it's often 20 mg or 40 mg once a day.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection under the skin (subcutaneous), usually by a doctor or nurse. It can also be given into a vein (intravenously) for certain heart attacks or after some surgeries, or into a tube during dialysis. Do not inject into a muscle.

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose based on your specific condition and health.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding (e.g., from an injury, nosebleeds, or internal bleeding that might not be visible).
  • Increased liver enzymes (shown in blood tests).
  • Bruising more easily than usual, possibly due to fewer blood platelets.
  • Pink patches on the skin, often at the injection site.
  • Rashes (hives).
  • Itchy, red skin.
  • Bruising or pain at the injection site.
  • Decrease in red blood cells (can make you feel tired).
  • Increase in blood platelets.
  • Headache.
RARE
  • Sudden, severe headache (could be a sign of bleeding in the brain).
  • Tenderness or swelling in the belly (could be bleeding in the stomach).
  • Large, red, irregularly shaped skin changes, possibly with blisters.
  • Local skin irritation.
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes, or darker urine (could be a sign of liver problems).
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., rash, swelling of face/lips/tongue, trouble breathing/swallowing).
  • Increased potassium levels in the blood (more common if you have kidney problems or diabetes).
  • Increased numbers of certain white blood cells (eosinophils), shown in blood tests.
  • Hair loss.
  • Weakening of bones (osteoporosis) after long-term use.
  • Tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness (especially in the lower body) after a spinal injection or anesthesia.
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control.
  • A hard lump or swelling at the injection site.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to enoxaparin sodium, heparin, or similar blood thinners, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have had a severe reaction to heparin in the past 100 days that caused a big drop in your blood platelets.
  • Do not use if you have special substances (antibodies) against enoxaparin in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have severe bleeding or a very high risk of bleeding, such as from a stomach ulcer, recent brain or eye surgery, or a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
  • Do not use if you are being treated for blood clots and are scheduled for a spinal injection (like an epidural) or surgery with spinal anesthesia within the next 24 hours.

  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have an artificial heart valve.
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have an infection of the heart lining (endocarditis).
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have high blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have diabetes or eye problems from diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you are elderly (over 65, especially over 75 years old).
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have kidney or liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you are underweight or overweight.
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have high potassium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially blood thinners like warfarin, aspirin, ibuprofen, or certain medicines for asthma/arthritis (like corticosteroids).
  • Tell your doctor before using this medicine if you have spine problems or have had spine surgery.
  • Do not switch this medicine with other similar blood thinners (low molecular weight heparins) without your doctor's guidance, as they are not exactly the same.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
