How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your specific dose; for treating blood clots, it's usually 1.5 mg per kg once daily or 1 mg per kg twice daily, and for prevention, typically 20-40 mg once daily.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection, usually under the skin, but sometimes into a vein or through a dialysis tube; it must not be injected into a muscle.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose based on your condition and needs.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Bleeding
  • Increased liver enzymes
  • Bruising easily (may be due to low blood platelets)
  • Pink patches on the skin at the injection site
  • Rashes (hives)
  • Itchy, red skin
  • Bruising or pain at the injection site
  • Decrease in red blood cells
  • High number of blood platelets
  • Headache
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., rash, trouble swallowing or breathing, swelling of lips, face, throat, or tongue)
  • High potassium levels in the blood (more likely in people with kidney problems or diabetes)
  • Increase in a type of white blood cell called eosinophils
  • Hair loss
  • Weakening of bones (osteoporosis) after long-term use
  • Tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness (especially in the lower body) after a spinal procedure or anesthesia
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control
  • Hard lump or swelling at the injection site
  • Sudden severe headache (may be a sign of bleeding in the brain)
  • Abdominal tenderness or swelling (may be a sign of bleeding in the abdomen)
  • Large, red, irregular skin lesions, with or without blisters
  • Local skin irritation
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes, or dark urine (may be a sign of liver problems)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to enoxaparin sodium or any other ingredients, or to heparin. Signs of an allergic reaction include rash, trouble breathing or swallowing, and swelling of your face, lips, throat or tongue.
  • Do not use if you have had a severe decrease in blood platelets due to heparin in the past 100 days.
  • Do not use if you have severe bleeding or a high risk of bleeding (e.g., stomach ulcer, recent brain or eye surgery, or recent stroke caused by bleeding in the brain).
  • If you are using this medicine to treat blood clots and are scheduled for spinal or epidural anesthesia or a lumbar puncture within 24 hours, do not use it.
  • Do not switch this medicine with other low molecular weight heparins without your doctor's guidance, as they are not the same.

  • Tell your doctor if you have a mechanical heart valve.
  • Tell your doctor if you are elderly (over 65 years old), especially if you are over 75.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you are underweight or overweight.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high potassium levels in your blood.
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor before using this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
