How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your condition and weight, but often it's 100-150 IU (1-1.5 mg) per kilogram once or twice daily, or 2000-4000 IU (20-40 mg) daily for prevention.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Easily bruised
  • Pink spots on the skin (often at injection site)
  • Rashes or hives
  • Itchy red skin
  • Bruising or pain at the injection site
  • Decreased red blood cells (anemia)
  • Increased platelet count
  • Headache
  • Bleeding
  • Increased liver enzymes
RARE
  • Sudden severe headache (may be a sign of bleeding in the brain)
  • Abdominal tenderness or swelling (may be a sign of bleeding in the abdomen)
  • Widespread red, irregular skin patches, possibly with blisters
  • Local skin irritation
  • Yellow skin or eyes, or dark urine (may be a sign of liver problems)
  • Severe allergic reactions (signs include rash, difficulty swallowing/breathing, swelling of lips/face/throat/tongue)
  • High blood potassium levels (more common with kidney issues or diabetes)
  • Increased eosinophils (a type of white blood cell)
  • Hair loss
  • Weakening of bones (osteoporosis) after long-term use
  • Tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness (especially in the lower body) after spinal injection or anesthesia
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control
  • Hard lump or swelling at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to enoxaparin, heparin, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe bleeding or a high risk of bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer or recent brain/eye surgery, or a recent stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have previously had a severe reaction to heparin that caused a big drop in your platelet count (a type of blood cell), or if you have antibodies against enoxaparin.
  • If you are being treated for blood clots and are planned for spinal or epidural anesthesia (back injection) or a lumbar puncture within 24 hours, do not use this medicine.
  • Do not switch this medicine with other low molecular weight heparins without your doctor's guidance, as they are not identical.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Consider potential interactions especially with other drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 19.9.2025)
