How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose for adults is 3.75 mg every four weeks, or 11.25 mg every three months, depending on the condition. For children over 20 kg, it's 3.75 mg (1 ml) once a month or 11.25 mg (1 ml) every three months.

A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine as an injection under the skin.

Important

Your doctor will decide your exact dose and how long you need to take the medicine. Do not stop treatment early, even if symptoms get better, unless your doctor tells you to.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Mood changes, depression, trouble sleeping
  • Hot flashes, feeling warm
  • Sweating
  • Reactions at the injection site (like pain, redness, or swelling)
  • Muscle weakness, joint or bone pain, shoulder stiffness
  • Headache, dizziness, tingling or numbness
  • Weight changes
  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain
  • Vaginal dryness or inflammation, bleeding or discharge, breast tenderness or shrinkage
  • Acne
  • Decreased sex drive and sexual ability
  • Shrinking of testicles
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (hives, breathing difficulties, swelling of lips/throat, chills, fever, anaphylaxis)
  • Serious skin rashes, blistering, or peeling (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme)
  • Blood clots in veins or lungs
  • Bleeding or tissue death in the pituitary gland (sudden headache, vomiting, vision problems)
  • Bone weakening (osteoporosis, bone fractures, decreased bone mineral density)
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., anemia, altered liver function, blood sugar, cholesterol, or potassium levels)
  • Heart rhythm changes (ECG changes, palpitations), enlarged heart, high blood pressure
  • Vision problems (including double vision), hearing loss, or ringing in the ears
  • Swelling (fluid retention)
  • Diarrhea, constipation, mouth inflammation, or numbness of lips
  • Skin inflammation, increased hair growth, hair loss, nail changes, dry skin, hives, itching
  • Frequent or painful urination, or blood in urine
  • Fatty liver, epileptic seizures, lung inflammation or disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, increased pressure in the skull (headache, double vision), thirst

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to leuprorelin acetate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a urinary tract blockage or a spinal cord injury.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes.

  • Tell your doctor if you have fatty liver disease.
  • This medicine can cause depression, which can be severe. Tell your doctor if you feel down or depressed while using it.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you or your child experience severe or recurring headaches, vision problems, or ringing in the ears.
  • Stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop serious skin rashes, blisters, or peeling skin (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Tell your doctor if you notice an abscess (a pus-filled lump) at the injection site.
  • This medicine may cause bones to become weaker (decreased bone mineral density).
  • In children, stopping treatment may lead to hip problems where the growth plate slips.
  • The 3.75 mg dose contains gelatin, which can cause severe allergic reactions in rare cases (hives, breathing difficulties, swelling of lips/throat).
  • This medicine contains polysorbate, which can cause allergic reactions. Tell your doctor if you have allergies.
