How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, usually 5-20 mg once a day. For heart failure, usually 2.5 mg once a day, increasing gradually to 20 mg once or twice a day.

Method

Take tablets with or without food, with enough liquid, such as a glass of water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg, taken once or divided into two doses for heart failure.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness, weakness
  • Dry cough (tell your doctor if you get a persistent cough)
  • Nausea
RARE
  • Headache, depression, tiredness
  • Very low blood pressure or low blood pressure when standing up (causing dizziness or fainting)
  • Chest pain, irregular heartbeat, fast heart rate
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain, changes in taste
  • Rash and other allergic reactions (including severe swelling like angioedema of face, lips, tongue, or throat)
  • Increased potassium or creatinine levels in blood
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Low blood sugar in diabetics
  • Nervousness, tingling or numbness of skin, drowsiness, insomnia
  • Runny nose, sore throat, hoarseness
  • Liver problems, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice)
  • Low white blood cell count (which can cause fever, sore throat, mouth sores indicating infection)
  • Muscle cramps, general feeling of illness, fever

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to enalapril or any other ingredient in this medicine, or to other ACE inhibitors.
  • Stop using it and tell your doctor immediately if you experience swelling of your hands, feet, face, lips, tongue, or throat, or have trouble swallowing or breathing (angioedema).
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant; it is also recommended to avoid use in early pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe diarrhea or vomiting, use diuretics, or are on a low-salt diet.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart or kidney problems, especially if you have diabetes and are also taking a blood pressure lowering medicine containing aliskiren.

  • If you experience dizziness, weakness, or blurred vision, especially when starting the treatment or increasing the dose, avoid driving or operating machinery.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
