How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, you usually start with 5-20 mg once a day. For heart failure, the usual starting dose is 2.5 mg once a day. Your doctor will adjust the dose, and a common maintenance dose is 20 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth with a glass of water. You can take them with or without food. Try to take your medicine at the same time each day.

Important

Do not take more than 40 mg in a single day.

  • Nasal lining inflammation (rhinitis)
  • Mouth inflammation, mouth sores
  • Tongue inflammation
  • Liver problems, liver inflammation, jaundice (yellow skin/eyes)
  • Severe skin reactions (like blistering and skin peeling)
  • Reduced urine output
  • Breast growth in men
  • Swelling in the intestines (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • If you have ever had a severe allergic reaction (like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat) with another ACE inhibitor, which made it hard to swallow or breathe.
  • If you are more than 3 months pregnant (it's also best to avoid this medicine in early pregnancy).
  • If you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking aliskiren for high blood pressure.
  • If you are taking or have recently taken a medicine called sacubitril/valsartan for heart failure, as it increases the risk of serious swelling (angioedema).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
