How to Use
Dosage
One tablet once a day.
Method
Take the tablet with food. If you have trouble swallowing, you can crush the tablet and mix it with a small amount of water or juice.
Important
A maximum of one tablet per day.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea
- •Dizziness, headache
- •Rash
- •Feeling of weakness
- •Abdominal pain, indigestion, bloating, gas
- •Sleep problems, abnormal dreams
- •Skin discoloration, such as dark patches
- •Loss of bone mass
- •Low blood phosphate levels, increased creatine kinase (seen in blood tests)
- •Low white blood cells, high fat or sugar levels, liver or pancreas problems (seen in blood tests)
RARE
- •Pancreatitis causing abdominal pain
- •Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- •Anemia (low red blood cell count)
- •Muscle breakdown, muscle pain, or weakness
- •Lactic acidosis (too much lactic acid in the blood), with symptoms like deep and fast breathing, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain. This is a serious, rare condition.
- •Fatty liver
- •Yellow skin or eyes, itching, or abdominal pain due to liver inflammation
- •Kidney inflammation, frequent urination, thirst, kidney failure, or kidney damage
- •Softening of bones, bone pain, or fractures
- •Back pain due to kidney problems
- •Bone problems (osteonecrosis), such as stiff joints, joint pain, or difficulty moving
Important Warnings
- Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to its ingredients.
- If you are using this medicine to prevent HIV, you must be HIV-negative before starting and get tested regularly.
- Take the medicine every day as directed; skipping doses can increase your risk of HIV infection. This medicine alone does not prevent HIV, always practice safe sex.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or bone diseases, or if you are over 65 or have hepatitis B virus.
- Do not use this medicine if you are already taking other medicines that contain emtricitabine or tenofovir disoproxil.

- This medicine can cause dizziness; do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy.
- Do not breastfeed during treatment as the medication can pass into breast milk.
