Emerade is an adrenaline pen used for emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) by raising blood pressure, supporting the heart, and making breathing easier.

How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your weight: 300–500 micrograms for adults, and 150 micrograms for children weighing 15–30 kg.

Method

Use your Emerade pen immediately at the first sign of a severe allergic reaction. Remove the cap, press the pen firmly against the outer thigh at a 90-degree angle until you hear a click, and hold it in place for 5 seconds. You can inject through clothing. Gently massage the injection site afterwards. Never inject into the buttock.

Important

Use a second pen after 5–15 minutes if needed, if symptoms do not improve or worsen.

Important Warnings

  • Talk to your doctor before using Emerade if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, an adrenal gland tumor, high eye pressure, kidney problems, prostate problems, or abnormal potassium or calcium levels in your blood.
  • If you are allergic to sodium metabisulphite or any other ingredients in Emerade, your doctor must advise you on when and how to use Emerade.
  • If you have asthma, you may be at a higher risk of a severe allergic reaction.
  • Accidental injection into hands or feet can reduce blood flow to these areas. Seek immediate medical attention if this happens.
  • Always seek medical help immediately after using your Emerade pen, even if you feel better. Call 112 and state 'anaphylaxis' as the reaction can return later.

  • Lie down with your feet elevated while waiting for the ambulance. If breathing is difficult, you can sit up.
