How to Use

Dosage

The doctor determines the dose individually for each patient, usually one tablet per day.

Method

Take the tablet in the morning, either with breakfast or whole with liquid. The tablet can be divided.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Coldness and numbness in the limbs.
  • Fatigue.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Digestive problems, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation.
  • Increased blood fat and cholesterol levels.
  • Increased blood sugar and urate levels, sugar in urine.
  • Fluid and electrolyte balance disturbances.
RARE
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps, and weakness.
  • Heart rhythm disorders and worsening of heart failure.
  • Low blood pressure when standing up.
  • Sleep disturbances, depression, nightmares, and hallucinations.
  • Bronchospasm (especially in asthma patients).
  • Increased creatinine and urea levels in blood.
  • Loss of appetite, stomach problems, increased amylase levels, and pancreatitis.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels, liver inflammation, and jaundice.
  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Hearing impairment.
  • Allergic rhinitis.
  • Reduced tear production, vision disturbances.
  • Low white blood cell and platelet count.
  • Fainting.
  • Allergic reactions (itching, redness, rash, photosensitivity).
  • Conjunctivitis.
  • Chest pain.
  • Severe lack of white blood cells (agranulocytosis).
  • Excessive alkalinity of the body (metabolic alkalosis).
  • Hair loss.
  • Connective tissue disease (LED).
  • Worsening of psoriasis or psoriasis-like rash.
  • Acute respiratory distress, fever, weakness, and confusion.
  • Rare lung disease (interstitial lung disease).
  • Certain types of skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer).
  • Blurred vision or eye pain due to high eye pressure.

Important Warnings

  • You are allergic to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
  • You have severe heart failure.
  • You have cardiogenic shock.
  • You have a very slow or irregular heartbeat, or a severe heart conduction disorder.
  • You have severe asthma.

  • You have severe circulation problems in your arms or legs (e.g., Raynaud's syndrome).
  • You have an untreated adrenal gland disease.
  • Your body is too acidic (metabolic acidosis).
  • You have severe kidney disease or acute glomerulonephritis.
  • You have severe liver disease.
  • Your blood potassium or sodium levels are low.
  • Your blood calcium levels are high.
  • You have gout.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide can cause blurred vision and eye pain. If this happens, seek medical attention as it could lead to permanent vision loss.
  • If you experience severe shortness of breath or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine, seek immediate medical attention.
  • This medicine may increase the risk of certain types of skin cancer. Protect your skin from sunlight and UV rays.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
