How to Use

Dosage

Start with a low dose, usually 1.25 mg once a day, and gradually increase it as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will decide how to increase the dose.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water in the morning, with or without food. Do not chew or crush the tablet. Scored tablets can be divided into two equal halves.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 10 mg of bisoprolol.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache
  • Feeling cold or numb in hands or feet
  • Low blood pressure
  • Stomach or gut problems like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Slow heart rate
  • Worsening heart failure
  • Sleep problems
  • Depression
  • Dizziness when standing up
  • Breathing difficulties in patients with asthma or chronic lung disease
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps
RARE
  • Slow or irregular heart rate
  • Hearing problems
  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • Reduced tear flow
  • Liver inflammation, which can cause yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Abnormal results in liver function or fat level blood tests
  • Allergic reactions like itching, redness, rash. Seek immediate medical help for severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, neck, tongue, mouth, throat, or breathing difficulties.
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Nightmares, hallucinations
  • Fainting
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • Hair loss
  • Psoriasis (scaly skin rash) appearing or getting worse; psoriasis-like rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Emconcor CHF if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any other ingredient in the tablets.
  • Do not take if you have severe asthma.
  • Avoid if you have severe circulation problems in your limbs, like Raynaud's syndrome, causing tingling or white/blue fingers and toes.
  • Do not take if you have untreated pheochromocytoma, a rare tumor of the adrenal gland.
  • Avoid if you have metabolic acidosis, which means too much acid in your blood.

  • Do not take if you have acute heart failure.
  • Do not take if your heart failure is getting worse and requires intravenous medications to boost heart contractions.
  • Avoid if you have a very slow heart rate.
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have certain heart conditions causing a very slow or irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not take if you have cardiogenic shock, a severe heart condition causing very low blood pressure and circulatory failure.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have chronic lung disease or mild asthma and experience new breathing difficulties, cough, or wheezing after physical activity while using Emconcor CHF.
