Emconcor

Emconcor contains bisoprolol, a beta-blocker medicine used to lower high blood pressure and treat chest pain caused by exertion (angina pectoris).

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 5 mg of bisoprolol (one 5 mg tablet or half of a 10 mg tablet) once a day. If needed, the dose can be increased to 10 mg of bisoprolol once a day.

Method

Take the tablet in the morning with water, with or without breakfast. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg of bisoprolol.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired, dizzy, or having a headache.
  • Feeling cold or numb in your hands or feet.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Stomach or bowel problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation.
RARE
  • Slow heartbeat.
  • Worsening of heart failure.
  • Feeling weak.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Depression.
  • Problems with the heart's electrical system.
  • Breathing difficulties (bronchospasm), especially if you have asthma or chronic lung disease.
  • Muscle weakness, muscle cramps.
  • Increased fat levels in the blood.
  • Reduced tear production.
  • Hearing problems.
  • Allergic runny nose.
  • Increased liver enzymes, liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Allergic reactions like itching, redness, or rash.
  • Erectile dysfunction.
  • Nightmares, hallucinations.
  • Fainting.
  • Eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis).
  • New or worsening scaly skin rash (psoriasis).
  • Hair loss.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Emconcor if you are allergic to bisoprolol or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have severe asthma.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have severe circulation problems in your arms and legs, like Raynaud's syndrome.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have an untreated tumor of the adrenal gland (pheochromocytoma).
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have too much acid in your blood (metabolic acidosis).

  • Do not take Emconcor if you have acute, untreated heart failure.
  • Do not take Emconcor if your heart failure is getting worse and requires special intravenous medicines.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have cardiogenic shock, a serious heart condition causing very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have certain heart conditions causing a very slow or irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have low blood pressure that causes problems.
  • Do not take Emconcor if you have a slow heart rate that causes problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider interactions , especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
