Emconcor tablets are used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain caused by exertion (angina pectoris).

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 5 mg Emconcor tablet or half of a 10 mg Emconcor tablet (which is 5 mg bisoprolol) once a day.

Method

Take the tablet in the morning with water, with or without breakfast. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg of bisoprolol once a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • tiredness, dizziness, headache (especially at the start of treatment, usually mild and disappearing within 1-2 weeks)
  • feeling cold or numb in hands or feet
  • low blood pressure
  • digestive problems, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation
RARE
  • slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • worsening of heart failure
  • feeling of weakness
  • sleep disorders
  • depression
  • problems with the heart's electrical system
  • breathing difficulties (bronchospasm) in patients with asthma or chronic lung disease
  • muscle weakness, muscle cramps
  • increased fat levels in the blood
  • decreased tear production
  • hearing problems
  • allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
  • increased levels of certain liver enzymes, liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • allergic reactions such as itching, redness, rash; contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the face, neck, tongue, mouth, or throat, or breathing difficulties)
  • erectile dysfunction
  • nightmares, hallucinations
  • fainting
  • eye irritation and redness (conjunctivitis)
  • occurrence or worsening of scaly skin rash (psoriasis); psoriasis-like rash
  • hair loss

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to bisoprolol or any other ingredient in Emconcor tablets.
  • Do not take if you have severe asthma.
  • Do not take if you have severe blood circulation problems in your limbs (e.g., Raynaud's syndrome), which can cause tingling in your fingers and toes, or make them turn white or blue.
  • Do not take if you have an untreated pheochromocytoma, which is a rare tumor of the adrenal gland.
  • Do not take if you have metabolic acidosis, which means your blood is too acidic.

  • Do not take if you have acute untreated heart failure.
  • Do not take if you have worsening heart failure that requires intravenous medicines to increase heart muscle strength.
  • Do not take if you have cardiogenic shock, a severe heart condition causing very low blood pressure and circulatory problems.
  • Do not take if you have certain heart conditions that cause a very slow or irregular heartbeat.
  • Do not take if you have low blood pressure that causes problems.
  • Do not take if you have a slow heart rate that causes problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. Consider interactions , especially with drugs affecting the conduction system of the heart. (updated 20.1.2025)
