How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually 30 mg, but some people may start with 20 mg. Your doctor will decide your dose.

Method

Take Elvanse Adult in the morning, before or with food. You can swallow the capsule whole with water, or open it and mix the contents with soft food (like yogurt), water, or orange juice. Eat or drink the mixture right away.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 70 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • decreased appetite
  • insomnia (trouble sleeping)
  • dry mouth
  • headache
  • irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
  • chest pain (may be a sign of heart problems)
  • feeling agitated, nervous, anxious, or irritable
  • unusual tiredness or restlessness
  • erection problems or changes in sex drive
  • dizziness
  • uncontrolled twitching, shaking, trembling, or unusual activity
  • difficult-to-control, repetitive twitching of any body part, or repeating sounds and words (tics)
  • mood swings
  • high blood pressure, fast or irregular heart rate (tachycardia)
  • breathing difficulties
  • nausea or diarrhea
  • constipation
  • weight loss
  • excessive sweating
  • stomach pains
  • teeth grinding (bruxism)
RARE
  • unusual excitement, overactivity or lack of inhibition (mania)
  • allergic reaction (hypersensitivity)
  • seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • severe allergic reaction with sudden drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing, and hives/itching (anaphylactic reaction)
  • seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not there, paranoia, and delusions (psychotic episodes)
  • worsening of Tourette's syndrome, characterized by difficult-to-control, repetitive body movements or sounds/words (tics)
  • seizures (convulsions)
  • abnormal heart rhythm, life-threatening irregular heartbeat (seen on ECG)
  • allergic liver damage, possibly with yellowing of the whites of the eyes and/or skin (eosinophilic hepatitis)
  • swelling of the face, tongue, or throat; difficulty swallowing; hives and breathing difficulties (angioedema); or severe rash with blisters on the skin and mucous membranes, or skin irritation, sores or swelling in the mouth, throat, eyes, nose and genital areas (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • shortness of breath or swollen legs (signs of heart muscle disease)
  • excessively dilated pupils
  • aggression
  • poor blood circulation causing numbness and paleness in fingers and toes (Raynaud's phenomenon)
  • unusual talkativeness
  • feeling depressed, worried, low, or uneasy (dysphoria)
  • feeling overly happy or excited (euphoria)
  • compulsive skin picking
  • uncontrolled body jerks or twitches
  • feeling unusually sleepy
  • itching, rash, or raised red itchy rash (hives)
  • blurred vision
  • fever
  • vomiting
  • metallic taste in mouth or altered taste (dysgeusia)
  • fainting
  • nosebleed

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to lisdexamfetamine, other amphetamines, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are currently taking or have taken an MAOI (a type of antidepressant) in the last two weeks.
  • Do not take if you have thyroid problems.
  • Do not take if you feel unusually excited, overactive, or uninhibited.
  • Do not take if you have ever had heart problems like a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, heart disease, or a birth defect of the heart.

  • Do not take if you have high or very high blood pressure or narrowed blood vessels.
  • Do not take if you have glaucoma (high eye pressure).
  • Using this medicine incorrectly can lead to unusual behavior and dependence. Tell your doctor if you have ever misused alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs. Do not give this medicine to anyone else, even if they have similar symptoms.
  • This medicine can cause heart rhythm problems. If you experience palpitations or an irregular heartbeat during treatment, tell your doctor immediately. The risk of heart problems may increase with higher doses, so follow the recommended dosage.
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, trouble focusing, or blurred vision. If you experience these symptoms, it can be dangerous to drive or operate machinery.
