How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you which strength capsule to take daily. Treatment usually starts with 30 mg, but your doctor may start with 20 mg and can increase the dose later.

Method

Take Elvanse in the morning before breakfast, with or without food. You can swallow the capsule whole with water, or open it and mix the contents with soft food (like yogurt), water, or orange juice. Eat or drink the mixture right away.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 70 mg.

Possible Side Effects

  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Feeling agitated, tense, anxious, depressed, irritable, or having mood swings
  • Feeling tired or restless
  • Erection problems or changes in sex drive
  • Dizziness
  • Uncontrolled movements, twitches, shaking, tremors, or unusual activity, including repetitive body movements or sounds (tics)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Weight loss
  • Excessive sweating
  • Stomach pain
  • Teeth grinding
  • Chest pain (may be a sign of heart problems)
RARE
  • Fever
  • Unusual talkativeness
  • Feeling depressed, anxious, sad, or restless (dysphoria)
  • Unusual feeling of well-being or excitement (euphoria)
  • Compulsive skin picking
  • Unusual drowsiness
  • Itching, rash, or red, itchy raised rash (hives)
  • Blurred vision
  • Metallic taste or taste disturbance
  • Fainting
  • Nosebleed
  • Unusual excitement, hyperactivity, or unrestrained behavior (mania)
  • Allergic reaction (hypersensitivity)

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to Elvanse, other similar medicines (amphetamines), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you are taking or have taken a type of antidepressant called MAOI inhibitors within the last two weeks.
  • If you have thyroid problems.
  • If you feel unusually excited, overactive, or out of control.
  • If you have or have had heart problems, such as a heart attack, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, heart failure, or a congenital heart defect, or if there's a family history of sudden unexplained death.

  • If you have high blood pressure or narrowed blood vessels.
  • If you have glaucoma (increased eye pressure).
  • If you have a history of misusing medicines or drugs.
  • If you have kidney problems.
  • If you have had seizures (like epilepsy) or an abnormal brain wave test (EEG).
  • If you have uncontrolled, repetitive muscle twitches or sounds (tics), or a family history of tic disorders.
  • If you have had a stroke.
  • If you have mental health problems, such as mood swings (bipolar disorder), aggression, seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), or believing things that are not true (delusions).
  • If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or could become pregnant.
