How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your daily dose, usually starting from 20 mg or 30 mg, which may be adjusted.

Method

Take one capsule in the morning, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water, or open it and mix the contents with soft food (like yogurt), water, or orange juice, then eat/drink immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 70 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased appetite
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Feeling agitated, nervous, anxious, depressed, irritable, or having mood swings
  • Feeling tired or restless
  • Problems with erections or changes in sex drive
  • Dizziness
  • Uncontrolled twitching, jerking, shaking, or being unusually active
  • Repeated body jerks or making sounds/words (tics) that are hard to control
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Trouble breathing
  • Feeling sick, throwing up, or diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Weight loss
  • Sweating a lot
  • Stomach pain
  • Grinding teeth
  • Chest pain
RARE
  • Fever
  • Talking too much
  • Feeling down, anxious, gloomy, or restless (dysphoria)
  • Feeling unusually happy or excited (euphoria)
  • Compulsively picking at skin
  • Uncontrolled body jerking or twitching
  • Unusual drowsiness
  • Itching, rash, or red, itchy bumps (hives)
  • Blurred vision
  • Metallic taste or strange taste in mouth (dysgeusia)
  • Fainting
  • Nosebleed
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with sudden low blood pressure, trouble breathing, and hives/itching
  • Seeing, feeling, or hearing things that are not there; paranoia or false beliefs (psychotic episodes)
  • Worsening of Tourette's syndrome (uncontrolled body movements or sounds)
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Life-threatening irregular heart rhythm
  • Allergic liver damage (yellowing of eyes/skin)
  • Skin swelling (angioedema) or severe skin rash with blisters (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
  • Shortness of breath or swollen legs (signs of heart muscle disease)
  • Very wide pupils
  • Aggressiveness
  • Poor blood circulation (Raynaud's phenomenon) making fingers and toes numb and pale

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to lisdexamfetamine dimesylate or any other ingredients in Elvanse.
  • Do not use if you have taken antidepressant medicines called MAOIs in the last two weeks.
  • Do not use if you have thyroid problems, or if you feel unusually excited, hyperactive, or uninhibited.
  • Do not use if you have had heart problems (like a heart attack or irregular heartbeat), high blood pressure, or increased eye pressure (glaucoma).
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience irregular heartbeat or chest pain, as these can be serious.
