How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the right dose. Usually, adults and children aged 6-17 start with one 50 mg tablet daily. For some children (1-5 years old) and certain adults, like those of Asian descent, treatment starts with one 25 mg tablet daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew it.

Important

Do not take more than one dose per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cold, cough, sore throat
  • Headache
  • Nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, vomiting
  • Fatigue, weakness
  • Muscle pain, joint pain, back pain
  • Itching, rash, hair loss
  • Dizziness
  • Fever, chills
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dry mouth, mouth sores, bleeding gums
  • Increased liver enzymes, low platelet count, anemia (low red blood cells)
RARE
  • Signs of a blood clot, such as swelling, pain, or redness in a leg, or sudden shortness of breath and chest pain.
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), unusually dark urine, severe stomach pain.
  • Severe allergic reaction.
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens), or bleeding in the eye.
  • Mood changes, confusion, numbness, or paralysis.
  • Heart rhythm problems or chest pain.
  • Kidney problems, such as frequent nighttime urination or kidney failure.
  • Serious skin reactions, such as skin discoloration or sores.
  • Bleeding or bruising after stopping the medication.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to eltrombopag or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or have received treatment for Hepatitis C, as this medicine can affect your liver or increase the risk of blood clots.
  • If you have a history of blood clots or they run in your family, talk to your doctor, as this medicine may increase the risk of blood clots.
  • Do not take this medicine with dairy products, certain types of antacids (for heartburn), or mineral supplements (like iron, calcium, magnesium). These can stop the medicine from working properly.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor. Use reliable contraception during treatment.
