How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take. For ITP, adults and children 6-17 usually start with one 50 mg tablet daily (25 mg if East/Southeast Asian). Children 1-5 usually start with one 25 mg tablet daily. For Hepatitis C, adults usually start with one 25 mg tablet daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not take it with dairy products, antacids, or mineral/vitamin supplements 4 hours before and 2 hours after your dose, as they can stop the medicine from working properly.

Important

Do not take more than one dose of Eltrombopag Vivanta per day. Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cold-like symptoms (runny nose, cough, sore throat, upper respiratory infection)
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Muscle, joint, or bone pain (including back pain, muscle spasms, weakness)
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Dizziness
  • Abdominal pain
  • Skin changes (itching, rash, sweating)
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Eye problems (dry eyes, blurred vision)
  • Swelling in hands or feet
  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
  • Increased liver enzymes (seen in blood tests)
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia, seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Allergic reaction (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing)
  • Blood clots (e.g., in the legs or lungs), which can be serious. (See warnings for symptoms.)
  • Serious liver problems with yellow skin or eyes (jaundice) or severe stomach pain.
  • Changes in heart rhythm.
  • Gout (painful, swollen joints due to high uric acid).
  • Mood changes, such as feeling sad or very anxious.
  • Confusion.
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens).
  • Bleeding in the digestive system, such as black or tarry stools, or vomiting blood that looks like coffee grounds.
  • Kidney problems, like inflammation or needing to urinate often at night.

Important Warnings

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to eltrombopag or any other ingredients.
  • This medicine can cause liver problems, so your doctor will check your liver regularly.
  • There is a risk of blood clots. Seek urgent medical help if you have swelling, pain, warmth, or redness in one leg; sudden shortness of breath; severe chest pain; stomach pain; a swollen stomach; or blood in your stool.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding without discussing it with your doctor. Use reliable birth control during treatment.
  • Do not stop taking Eltrombopag Vivanta without talking to your doctor, as your platelet count may drop quickly.
