How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 25 mg or 50 mg tablet once a day, as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take it at least 4 hours before and 2 hours after eating dairy products, antacids, or mineral/vitamin supplements.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, typically one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Colds, runny nose, sore throat, or sinus infections.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea), throwing up (vomiting), or loose stools (diarrhea).
  • Headache.
  • Cough.
  • Feeling very tired or weak.
  • Fever or chills.
  • Muscle aches, muscle cramps, bone pain, or back pain.
  • Dizziness or feeling sleepy.
  • Not feeling hungry.
  • Dry mouth, sore mouth, tongue pain, bleeding gums, or mouth sores.
  • Dry eyes, eye pain, blurred vision, or cloudy vision (cataracts).
  • Rashes, itching, hair loss, or sweating more than usual.
  • Stomach pain, heartburn, constipation, or gas.
  • Changes in blood tests for liver function or red blood cells (anemia).
  • Trouble sleeping, feeling sad (depression), or anxious.
  • Swelling in your hands, feet, or other parts of your body due to fluid build-up.
  • Foamy or bubbly urine (a sign of protein in your urine).
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction.
  • Blood clots in your legs, lungs, or liver.
  • Liver damage, which can cause yellow skin or eyes (jaundice) or dark urine.
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Gout (pain and swelling in joints caused by high uric acid).
  • Problems with balance, speech, or tremors, or paralysis on one side of the body.
  • Bleeding in your eyes or stomach/bowel (e.g., black stools, vomiting blood).
  • Kidney problems, like inflammation or frequent urination at night.
  • Other changes in blood tests (e.g., more platelets, less calcium, signs of blood disorders).
  • Changes in skin color or darkening of the skin.
  • Feeling confused or agitated.
  • Changes in your bowel that your doctor would need to check.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to eltrombopag or any other ingredients in it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as this medicine can increase the risk of serious liver damage and blood clots.
  • You may have a higher risk of blood clots. Seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling, pain, warmth, redness or tenderness in one leg; sudden shortness of breath; severe chest pain; fast breathing; stomach pain; swollen stomach; or blood in your stool.
  • If you have cataracts (cloudy vision), your doctor will check your eyes regularly.
  • Tell your doctor if you have other blood disorders like myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), as this medicine might make your condition worse.

  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary. Use reliable birth control during treatment.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness. Do not drive or use machines until you know how it affects you.
