How to Use

Dosage

For ITP (adults and children 6-17), the usual starting dose is one 50 mg tablet daily; if you are of East or Southeast Asian origin, you may start with 25 mg. For ITP (children 1-5) and Hepatitis C (adults), the usual starting dose is one 25 mg tablet daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not take it with dairy products (like cheese, milk, yogurt), antacids (for indigestion), or mineral supplements (like iron, calcium, magnesium, aluminum, selenium, or zinc) 4 hours before and 2 hours after taking this medicine, as these can stop it from working properly.

Important

Do not take more than one dose per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Common cold or upper respiratory infections
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
  • Cough, sore throat or discomfort when swallowing
  • Headache, muscle pain, muscle cramps, bone pain, back pain
  • Fatigue, weakness, feeling unwell
  • Fever, hot flashes, feeling warm
  • Eye problems such as dry eyes, blurred vision, eye pain, abnormal eye exam results
  • Skin changes like sweating, itchy rash, red spots, hair loss
  • Tingling, numbness, reduced skin sensation
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Abnormal liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Changes in blood cell counts, such as fewer red or white blood cells or platelets (seen in blood tests)
RARE
  • Allergic reaction
  • Blood clots (signs include pain, swelling, warmth, or redness in one leg; sudden shortness of breath or sharp chest pain; abdominal pain; or blood in stool/vomit)
  • Serious liver damage or yellowing of the skin/eyes (jaundice)
  • Heart problems such as a fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Joint pain and swelling due to gout
  • Mood changes like lack of interest, depression, or unexpected crying
  • Problems with balance, speech, tremors, or paralysis on one side of the body
  • Kidney problems, including inflammation or frequent urination at night
  • Bleeding in the eyes, mouth, nose, or digestive system (e.g., blood in stool or vomit)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Eltrombopag Krka if you are allergic to eltrombopag or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as there is a higher risk of serious liver damage and blood clots, especially with low platelet counts and advanced chronic liver disease.
  • Be aware of a higher risk of blood clots, especially if you are older, have been bedridden, have cancer, use birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy, have had recent surgery or injury, are very overweight, smoke, or have advanced chronic liver disease. Seek immediate medical help if you experience leg swelling/pain, sudden shortness of breath/chest pain, abdominal pain, or blood in your stool.
  • Tell your doctor if you have cataracts (cloudy eye lens) or other eye problems, as regular eye exams may be recommended.
  • Inform your doctor if you have another blood disorder like myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), as this medicine might worsen your condition and careful monitoring is needed.

  • Do not use Eltrombopag Krka if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor specifically advises it. Use reliable contraception during treatment and inform your doctor if you become pregnant.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and other side effects that may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not stop taking Eltrombopag Krka without talking to your doctor, as your platelet count will be monitored weekly for four weeks after stopping treatment and may drop again.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and mineral supplements, as some may interact with Eltrombopag Krka and your dosage or timing might need adjustment.
