How to Use

Dosage

For ITP, adults and children 6-17 usually start with 50 mg daily; children 1-5 and some adults of East/Southeast Asian origin start with 25 mg daily. For Hepatitis C, adults usually start with 25 mg daily. Your doctor may change your dose.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Important

Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose; do not take more than one dose per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Cough, runny nose, common cold, sore throat
  • Muscle pain, joint pain, back pain
  • Rash, itching, hair loss, sweating
  • Tiredness, weakness, fever
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, gas
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Dizziness
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia)
RARE
  • Blood clots in legs, lungs, or liver (symptoms like swelling, pain, sudden shortness of breath)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), severe liver damage
  • Cataracts (cloudy eyes), bleeding in the eye
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Confusion, agitation, mood changes, depression
  • Tingling or numbness in hands/feet, tremors, problems with balance or speech
  • Kidney inflammation, kidney failure, painful urination
  • Gout (joint pain and swelling due to high uric acid)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to eltrombopag or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease. You will have regular blood tests, and treatment may stop if your liver gets worse.
  • This medicine can increase the risk of blood clots. Seek immediate medical help if you have symptoms like swelling, pain, warmth, or redness in a leg, sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, stomach pain, or blood in your stool.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor, as your platelet count may drop again and increase your risk of bleeding.
  • Do not take this medicine with dairy products, antacids, or mineral supplements (iron, calcium, magnesium, aluminum, selenium, zinc). Take it at least 4 hours before or 2 hours after these products.

  • Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding unless specifically advised by your doctor. Use reliable birth control during treatment.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or other side effects that affect your ability to drive or use machines safely. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
