How to Use

Dosage

Eligard 45 mg is given as an injection every six months.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you the medicine as an injection under the skin (subcutaneously). The injection site should be rotated.

Important

The dose is 45 mg every six months; this dose should not be exceeded.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Hot flashes
  • Tiredness, reactions at the injection site (e.g., pain, redness, bruising)
  • Nausea, feeling unwell, diarrhea, stomach or bowel inflammation
  • Joint pain
  • Frequent urination (also at night), difficulty urinating, painful urination, reduced urine flow
  • Breast tenderness, breast enlargement, shrunken testicles, testicular pain, infertility, erection problems, smaller penis size
  • Chills (shaking and high fever), feeling weak, inflammation in nose and throat
  • Longer bleeding time, changes in blood values, reduced red blood cells
  • Night sweats, itching
RARE
  • Urinary infections, local skin infections
  • Worsening of diabetes
  • Depression, unusual dreams, trouble sleeping, decreased sex drive
  • Headache, dizziness, changes in taste or smell, numbness
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath, lung problems
  • Constipation, dry mouth, vomiting, indigestion, gas, burping
  • Sweating, clammy skin, hair loss, rashes, severe skin reactions (like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, blistering, peeling skin)
  • Back pain, muscle cramps, muscle weakness or loss, bone fractures, weight gain
  • Blood in urine, bladder spasms, frequent need to urinate, inability to urinate
  • Abnormal movements, balance problems, fainting, sudden loss of consciousness, increased pressure in the head (with headache, double vision, ringing in ears), memory or vision problems, seizures
  • Chest pain, heart palpitations, changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG changes), blood clot in lung
  • Tissue death at injection site, wounds at injection site
  • Severe allergic reactions

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Eligard if you are a woman or a child, or if you are allergic to the active substance or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease or rhythm problems, diabetes, or if you have weak bones.
  • If you have difficulty urinating, spinal cord problems, or spinal metastases, tell your doctor.
  • Tell your doctor if you feel depressed, have seizures, or experience severe headaches, vision problems, or ringing in your ears.
  • Stop using the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin reactions such as rash, blisters, or peeling skin.
