How to Use

Dosage

Adults aged 60 years and older receive one 0.5 ml dose.

Method

A doctor, pharmacist, or nurse will give the recommended dose as an injection into a muscle or under the skin.

Important

Only one dose is needed, typically once a year.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain, redness, swelling, bruising, or hardening at the injection site.
  • Feeling unwell, headache, muscle pain, fever, or chills.
RARE
  • Itching at the injection site.
  • Tiredness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cough, muscle weakness, indigestion, or sore throat.
  • Unusual weakness, flushing, joint pain, dizziness, night sweats, rash, numbness or tingling, runny nose, vertigo, red eyes, or pain in limbs.
  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., low blood pressure, difficulty breathing, fast or slow heartbeat, cold sweats, dizziness leading to collapse, swelling in the face, lips, tongue, or throat).
  • Other allergic reactions (e.g., skin reactions that may spread over the body, itching, hives, or rash).
  • Reduced blood platelets (leading to increased bruising or bleeding), swollen glands in the neck, armpits, or groin, nerve problems (stiff neck, confusion, numbness, pain and weakness in limbs, paralysis), seizures, chest pain, wheezing, tight throat, or difficulty breathing.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Efluelda if you are allergic to the active ingredients, any other ingredient in this vaccine, or any substances like egg proteins or formaldehyde that may be present in small amounts.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a weak immune system or are taking medicines that affect it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bleeding problems or bruise easily.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had Guillain-Barré syndrome (severe muscle weakness) after a flu shot.
  • If you have a high or moderate fever, or an acute illness, you may need to delay your vaccination until you are well again.

  • Fainting can happen with any needle injection. Tell your doctor or nurse if you have fainted before when getting an injection.
  • Tell your doctor if you need a blood test within a few days after vaccination, as it can sometimes lead to false positive results.
  • This vaccine is only for adults aged 60 years and older and should not be used in children.
