How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 60 mg tablet once daily. Your doctor may reduce the dose to one 30 mg tablet once daily if you have kidney problems, weigh 60 kg or less, or are taking certain other medicines (P-gp inhibitors like ciclosporin, dronedarone, erythromycin, or ketoconazole).

Method

Swallow the tablet whole, preferably with water. You can take it with or without food. If you have trouble swallowing, the tablet can be crushed and mixed with water or applesauce, or given through a feeding tube.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is one 60 mg tablet, unless your doctor has reduced your dose to 30 mg.

  • Abdominal pain
  • Abnormal liver values (shown in blood tests)
  • Bleeding from or under the skin
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Nosebleed
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Rash
  • Bleeding in the intestine
  • Bleeding from the mouth and/or throat
  • Blood in urine
  • Bleeding after an injection or puncture
  • Stomach bleeding
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Headache

RARE
  • Eye bleeding
  • Bleeding from a surgical wound after an operation
  • Bloody cough (coughing up blood)
  • Brain bleeding (intracranial hemorrhage)
  • Other types of bleeding
  • Low number of platelets in the blood (which may affect blood clotting)
  • Allergic reaction
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Muscle bleeding
  • Joint bleeding
  • Bleeding in the abdominal cavity
  • Bleeding around the heart
  • Intracranial bleeding (bleeding inside the skull)
  • Bleeding after a surgical procedure
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock)
  • Swelling in any part of the body due to an allergic reaction
  • Bleeding in the kidneys, sometimes with blood in the urine, leading to kidney dysfunction (anticoagulant-related nephropathy)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to edoxaban or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you are currently bleeding.
  • Do not take if you have a condition that increases your risk of serious bleeding, such as a stomach ulcer, a brain injury or bleeding, or recent brain or eye surgery.
  • Do not take if you are already taking other medicines to prevent blood clotting, unless your doctor is switching your treatment or using heparin to keep a catheter open.
  • Do not take if you have a liver disease that increases your risk of bleeding.
