How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually take 10 mg. If you are elderly, frail, or have liver or breathing problems, your doctor might tell you to take a lower dose, often 5 mg.

Method

Place the tablet under your tongue and let it fully dissolve. Take it just before you go to bed or when you are already in bed. Do not take it with or right after food.

Important

Do not take more than 10 mg in 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Upper respiratory infections (like a cold)
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), feeling anxious or restless, nightmares, feeling numb, feeling down (depression)
  • Feeling sleepy, headache, dizziness, worse insomnia, memory problems (sometimes with strange behavior), feeling drowsy the next day
  • Feeling like you're spinning (vertigo)
  • Seeing double
  • Diarrhea, feeling sick to your stomach, throwing up, stomach ache
  • Skin rashes
  • Feeling very tired
  • Back pain
RARE
  • Hives (itchy rash)
  • Changes in sexual desire
  • Lower level of awareness
  • Changes in how you walk
  • Falls, especially in older people
  • Blurred vision
  • Liver damage
  • Unusual reactions like restlessness, agitation, irritability, aggression, false beliefs, outbursts of rage, nightmares, seeing or hearing things that aren't there, psychosis, or inappropriate behavior. These are more common in older people.
  • Confusion, irritability, restlessness, aggression
  • Coordination problems, tingling or numbness, tremor
  • Muscle weakness, muscle pain, muscle cramps, joint pain, neck pain
  • Rash, itching, excessive sweating

  • Increased levels of certain liver enzymes (found in blood tests)
  • Severe breathing problems (respiratory depression)
  • Delusions (false beliefs), rage attacks, psychosis (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't there), inappropriate behavior
  • Delirium (a sudden and severe change in mental state where a person seems confused or disoriented)
  • Physical dependence (addiction to the medicine, even at normal doses), with withdrawal symptoms if stopped suddenly, or old symptoms returning
  • Psychological dependence (feeling unable to sleep without Edluar)
  • Tolerance (needing to take higher and higher doses to get the same effect)

Important Warnings

  • If you are elderly or weak, Edluar can relax your muscles and make you sleepy, increasing your risk of falling and breaking a bone if you get up at night. Be careful.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or breathing problems, as Edluar can make your breathing more shallow.
  • If you have had mental health issues like anxiety, depression, or thoughts of harming yourself, Edluar might make these worse.
  • Let your doctor know if you have heart problems or a condition called "long QT syndrome."
  • If you have a history of misusing alcohol or drugs, or are prone to it, you are more likely to become dependent on Edluar, especially with high doses or long-term use.

  • Children and teenagers under 18 years old should not use Edluar.
  • Edluar can make you sleepy, dizzy, or blur your vision the next day. This can make it unsafe to drive, use machines, or do tasks that need you to be fully awake. Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep after taking it.
  • Edluar can cause memory loss. To lower this risk, make sure you can sleep for 8 hours without waking up after taking the medicine.
  • If you do unusual things in your sleep, like sleepwalking, driving, eating, or making calls while not fully awake, stop taking Edluar right away and tell your doctor. This behavior can be dangerous.
  • Do not drink alcohol or use other medicines that make you sleepy while taking Edluar, as this can make side effects worse. Grapefruit juice may also change how Edluar works.
  • Do not use Edluar if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
