Dutester treats an enlarged prostate in men by reducing a hormone to shrink the prostate and relieve symptoms, which also lowers the risk of acute urinary retention and surgery.

How to Use

Dosage

One 0.5 mg capsule once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew or open it, as the contents can irritate your mouth or throat.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is one 0.5 mg capsule.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection (impotence)
  • Decreased sex drive (libido)
  • Problems with ejaculation (less semen)
  • Breast enlargement or tenderness (gynecomastia)
  • Dizziness (when taken with tamsulosin)
RARE
  • Heart failure (symptoms include shortness of breath, extreme tiredness, and swelling of ankles and legs)
  • Hair loss (mostly body hair) or hair growth
  • Depression
  • Pain and swelling in the testicles

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Dutester if you are allergic to dutasteride, other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as special tests might be needed.
  • Women, children, and teenagers should not handle leaking Dutester capsules, as the active ingredient can be absorbed through the skin. Wash immediately with soap and water if skin contact occurs.
  • Use a condom during sex if your partner is pregnant or might become pregnant, as dutasteride in semen can affect the normal development of a male baby.
  • Dutester can affect blood tests for prostate cancer (PSA test). Always tell your doctor you are taking Dutester before having a PSA test, and your PSA levels should be checked regularly.

  • Dutester can cause breast enlargement and tenderness. If you notice breast lumps or nipple discharge, tell your doctor immediately as these could be signs of serious conditions like breast cancer.
  • Mood changes, depression, and rarely suicidal thoughts have been reported. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor right away.
  • If you experience signs of an allergic reaction (such as rash, hives, or swelling of the face, eyelids, lips, arms, or legs), stop taking Dutester and contact your doctor immediately.
