How to Use
Dosage
One 0.5 mg capsule once a day.
Method
Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew or open it, as the contents can irritate your mouth or throat. You can take it with or without food.
Important
Do not take more than one 0.5 mg capsule per day.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Trouble getting or keeping an erection (impotence), which may continue even after stopping the medicine.
- •Reduced sexual desire (libido), which may continue even after stopping the medicine.
- •Ejaculation problems, like a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex, which may continue even after stopping the medicine.
- •Breast enlargement or tenderness (gynecomastia).
- •Dizziness when taken with tamsulosin.
RARE
- •Heart failure (when the heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should), which can cause shortness of breath, extreme tiredness, and swelling in your ankles and feet.
- •Hair loss (usually from the body) or hair growth.
- •Depression.
- •Pain and swelling in your testicles.
Important Warnings
- Do not use if you are allergic to dutasteride, other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredient in the medicine.
- Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
- This medicine is for men only. Women, children, and teenagers should not handle leaky capsules, as the medicine can be absorbed through the skin. If contact occurs, wash immediately with soap and water.
- Use a condom during sex. Dutasteride can be found in semen and can harm the normal development of a baby boy if your partner is pregnant or might become pregnant.
- This medicine affects a blood test for prostate cancer (PSA test). Make sure your doctor knows you are taking it, and your PSA levels will need to be checked regularly.

- This medicine can cause breast enlargement and tenderness. If you notice any lumps or nipple discharge, tell your doctor immediately, as these could be signs of a serious condition like breast cancer.
- Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first. It may take up to 6 months or longer to see the full effect.
